D.H. Lawrence: Sons and Lovers
[ send me this paper ]
( 5 pp.) Thesis: Sons and Lovers, is an excellent title for D.H. Lawrence's 1913 story of an unaware mother's emotional enmeshment with her youngest son. This is the story of a family with four children: three sons and one daughter. We see how the family inter-relates to each other, particularly a mother to her sons. We are also shown how interdependency becomes an entangled web between an unaware mother and her youngest son. We will look at those relationships in light of our thesis, how a mother chooses to give more value to her needs than that of her son.

Several researchers have sought to explain aspects of love from various approaches, and all of the world’s leading religions give love a place of honor in individuals’ lives. The purpose here is to review some of the research that has been done in this area and to reflect on findings and personal opinion. Sound and informative research on love exists, but virtually none of it succeeds in gaining any clearer perspective on the “big picture.” From both research and personal perspectives, love remains an enigma, one that deserves greater and more detailed attention.
